Blown cellulose insulation is the cost-effective, high performance insulation choice.

BET's highest quality cellulose insulation has many benefits, including:

  • Impressive R-3.8 / inch insulating value that maintains its performance in cold weather.  Cold air moving through fiberglass drastically reduces its effective insulating value.
  • Made from a renewable resource- clean recycled newsprint.
  • Fills gaps and cavities, and when dense-packed in walls provides an effective air barrier to make buildings more comfortable.
  • Small ecological footprint with a very low embodied energy of 750 Btus/lb.
  • Impregnated with a naturally occuring borate fire retardant and mold inhibitor with very low toxicity rating.

Building Energy Technologies can tackle your difficult insulation needs with cellulose and companion insulation materials.

  • Foam Board: XPS, EPS and polyisocyanurate  --  useful for insulating solid surfaces or creating a barrier between two spaces.
  • Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF)  --  the closed cell, high density spray foam that we use is an excellent air and vapor barrier in addition to having a very high insulating value.  Spray foam is expensive, so it is typically reserved for special applications such as insulating above cathedral ceilings.  It is also less versatile than cellulose when insulating existing buildings.
  • Fiberglass  --  also called "filterglass."  We consider fiberglass an insulation of last resort, despite its common use.  Why?  Fiberglass is typically installed with gaps that dramatically reduce its overall insulating value, and because fiberglass allows significant air leakage.
